Sculptures

The inspiration for this new art form was based primarily upon my signature cuff design. With a desire to expand it far beyond the size of anyone’s wrist, and to be able to focus on form without regard to function, was a liberating experience.

As a self-taught jewelry designer, I began experimenting with inexpensive materials. As I became more accomplished, the quality of the gemstones improved as well. The question then became: What was I to do with these pieces of crystal quartz, amazonite, freshwater pearls, etc.? During an off-season walk on a Martha’s Vineyard beach I came across some driftwood and suddenly I envisioned those gemstones as sea glass collecting on these sculptural pieces of wood. I entitled my first sculpture, Sea Debris.

Although I love working with driftwood, I soon found that was limiting as well. I began to crochet metal into free form shapes interwoven with glass beads. The designs, colors and sizes are absolutely limitless.
