Metal & Bead Sculpture Gallery
My inspiration for this new art form was based primarily upon my signature cuff design. With a desire to expand it far beyond the size of anyone's wrist, and to be able to focus on form without regard to function, was a liberating experience.
As a self-taught jewelry designer, I began my craft by experimenting with inexpensive materials. As I became more accomplished, the quality and grade of the gemstones improved as well. The question then became: What was I to do with these inferior pieces of quartz crystal, amazonite, freshwater pearls, etc.? During an off-season walk on a Martha's Vineyard beach, I came across wonderful pieces of driftwood, and thus the idea of stones that look like sea glass collecting on these sculptural pieces of wood was formed.
I entitled my first sculpture "Sea Debris."
Although I love working with driftwood, I soon found that was limiting as well. I began to crochet metal into free form shapes interwoven with glass beads. The designs, colors and sizes are now absolutely limitless.
The Simon Gallery on Martha's Vineyard became the perfect showcase for many of my sculptures.
But, once again, I wished to go beyond the spatial dimensions of the gallery. I then became inspired to construct an outdoor wall sculpture on the side of the historic Capawock Movie Theater in Vineyard Haven. I subsequently launched a kickstarter project called
"Martha's Vineyard Public Art Project - Bringing Art to the Outdoors."
With the help of my backers it was successfully funded this past summer and installed over Labor Day weekend.
You can go to the Metal & Bead Sculpture Collection to view my other sculptures that are presently for sale.
I invite the design community to view this collection for their clients who also might be interested in commissioning a custom-designed piece for office buildings, hotel lobbies or private homes. Wherever your imagination takes you and whatever your space demands, I welcome the opportunity to exceed your expectations.
